The 4th Chinese New Year Festival celebrated in Helsinki

The 4th Chinese New Year Festival was celebrated at the Lasipalatsi Square, Helsinki on Feb. 13, 2010, i.e. the Chinese New Year Eve according to the traditional Chinese Lunar Calendar. H.E. Mr. Huang Xing, Chinese Ambassador to Finland and Mr. Jussi Pajunen, Lord Mayor of Helsinki, jointly delivered New Year greetings on the stage to the audience.

Artists from the Beijing Opera Company presented Peking Opera on the stage along with local artists and students. Apart from the performances, food stalls and souvenir shops on the square also attracted floods of people. Besides the authentic Chinese food and original Peking Opera performance, people could also watch the CCTV New Year's Gala live on the square projected to the north wall. As all the audiences counting down, the New Year bell ringing and fireworks lightening up the sky, the celebration wrapped up with great success. The International Cultural Centre Caisa, organizer of the event, tells that some 25,000 people participated in the event.

 

The Chinese New Year Festival was initiated in 2007, under the framework of friendly exchange program between the city of Helsinki and Beijing. Thanks to the constant supports from the two city's governments and hard work of the International Cultural Centre Caisa, the event has been sensational successful for 4 consecutive years, attracting over 100,000 audiences.
