COVID-19 helps the international community to realize the emergency and necessity of harmonious relationship between man and nature, and is triggering reflections on green transition. The Climate Ambition Summit held not long ago once again reminded us that when facing common challenges for mankind such as climate change, we need not only ambition but also action.
China has already been acting for that end. China has met and exceeded its 2020 climate action targets ahead of schedule, and has promised to strive to peak CO2 emission by 2030 and achieve carbon neutrality by 2060. The fifth plenary session of the 19th Central Committee of the Communist Party of China proposed to draft plans to reach CO2 emission peak value by 2030 and forward market-oriented trade for carbon emission rights. At the Climate Ambition Summit, President Xi Jinping further announced four new commitments including lowering CO2 emissions per unit of GDP, increasing the share of non-fossil fuels, increasing the forest stock volume and total installed capacity of wind and solar power, which adds to the road map of reaching CO2 emission peak value by 2030. In addition, China proposes to further curtail the production and use of non-essential, disposable plastic goods and to hold an international conference on food loss and waste in due course. China will host COP15 of the Convention on Biological Diversity in 2021.
Finland has been a pioneer in terms of green development. Finland aims to reach carbon neutrality by 2035 and is committed to become world's first climate neutral welfare society. Concrete measures are taken to restrict the use of fossil fuels and to boost circular economy. During the years working and living in Finland, I myself feel that green and low carbon has become the way of life for Finns, and the idea of harmonious relationship between man and nature is deeply rooted in Finland's education, science, culture and economy. Considering China is accelerating its ecological development, the outlook of China-Finland cooperation is promising. We are willing to strengthen mutual learning, draw on complementary advantages and work together with Finland to participate in global climate governance in a constructive manner and promote comprehensive green transition of economic and social development.
Faced with pandemic and unilateralism, more and more countries realize that we all share a common destiny. At the historic crossroads, the only way for us to achieve mutual benefits is to safeguard multilateralism and strengthen solidarity and cooperation. At present, a universal discussion and priority is to ensure the comprehensive and effective implementation of the Paris Agreement, and to set a green path for COVID-19 recovery. More and more people have changed their mindset and habit and take action to reduce emission, protect environment and contribute to sustainable development. China always honors its commitments, and will take concrete measures to firmly implement its goals, and make joint efforts with Finland and the international community to build a clean and beautiful world and preserve our only and shared home.
